Conn-Island drive up

I usually don't look forward to Weddings, but this was is an exception. For one I think they are a good match, also it's an excuse for a spontaneous vacation through the Berkshires. I've never been to the more rural parts of Massachusetts and until recently, I couldn't tell you what was there except for a few colleges. This trip is an opportunity to explore a chain of artistic areas that I've never had the opportunity to see that I've dubbed "the Americana Trail".

I'm happy to begin the trip with a voyage on the Port Jefferson ferry. It's always fun on a beautiful spring morning to cross the Long Island Sound with the sea breeze and the morning sun. I stopped and purchased my last cup of Starbucks for the weekend and sat up top watching the waves crash against the iron. The drive through Connecticut is always fun. I love stopping off at little towns and seeing the Victorian architecture next to the open woods.

I stopped in Waterbury for coffee and ordered an iced latte. The town would be terrific if there were any people, culture, or activities but instead it appeared like a ghost town that would come to life occasionally throughout the year. The few people I encountered were nice. The coffee shop had no ice but was excited about the possibility of trying to make an iced latte so I waited while an attempt was made. The coffee was more like an iced milk slushy but it kept me going on the way to Massachusetts
