Boston the way up

Where were you on 777?

I boarded the Port Jefferson ferry at 4pm on my way up to Boston for a week of business and pleasure and had decided to check out the scenery on the ride up. I had always wanted to check out the Yale campus so I stopped for dinner and a look around. What I found was not what I was expecting. It was Hogwarts meets pre 42nd street circa 1985. There were gorgeous buildings next to vacant lots and the streets were filled with professorial sophisticates alongside homeless street artists. It was a weird but cool environment.

It certainly had a number of dinner options and I decided to take my first course in Turkish food which was similar to other Mediterranean cuisine with a twist of Italian. The food was great and there were enough college book shops and indie record stores to keep me busy for a few days.

I continued up route 95 into the night until I passed a sign for the Mohegan Sun casino. I figured the date was 7/7/7 so I had to at least stop by even though it was already 10pm. The great thing about a good casino is that it has no sense of time and everything always seems joyous (at least until you lose your money). It was worth it for the late night Starbucks and the Dale Chihuly sculpture alone. I didn't strike it rich but I enjoyed the mall and made it up to Boston by midnight.
