Rockport, Maine 2005

First impressions last long

What I had known of Maine was this: Stephen King, Lobster, & ...well that was it. What I found was an extraordinary creative community filled with laid back, friendly people and an enviorment to suit. I traveled by plane and didn't have a ride so I was lucky enough to be in a workshop filled with wonderful photographers that gave me a lift around for the week. This trip was one of those moments that came at the right time in my life.

Maine is like a southern city that was flown by helicopter up north and then loaded with artists. Coming from New York I was shocked by the willingness strangers had to enter into conversation. Everywhere I went I would talk to people and I was often invited in and welcomed into their homes. There is essentially two roads in the area I was staying and even less Starbucks so I wasn't quite sure that I was even going to last a week but what they lacked in Starbucks they made up for in pies.
