Nagoya

I stopped off in Nagoya, the forth largest city in Japan for a week-long stay with a Japanese family in the neighboring town of Obu. This area had a fascinating juxtaposition between old and new with acres of green trees and rice fields butting up against modern homes and factories supporting the nearby Toyota car plant.

While in Nagoya I attended a Sumo wrestling tournament which was as foreign as it was fun as we cheered along with the group seated in our section. I also had a chance to visit the zoo which was gi-normous and I ate dinner with the family that was hosting me at a futuristic automated sushi restaurant where dishes roll by you on a conveyor belt and you grab whatever you like.
