Getting a chance to spend a whole day in the city is great. I've become a big fan of the By Ward market with its endless restaurants, galleries, and shopping (not to mention its open later than the rest of the city). The market has a number of street performers that make the walk interesting and, along with the rest of the city, its architecture is diverse. I tried four or five restaurants and still have a list I want to get to.
Ottawa also has history on every block which has taught me how much I don't know about Canada. There is a fun blend of cosmopolitan youth and ancient depth in this section of the city.
